City commences with road resurfacing along Simon’s Town Main Road

29 March 2023

The City of Cape Town’s Urban Mobility Directorate has commenced with the resurfacing of Simon’s Town Main Road between Dido Valley Road and Redhill Road. The City asks that road users and businesses in Simon’s Town remain patient while the necessary roadworks are under way. The project is scheduled to be completed in May 2023.

Work has commenced today and will take place from 09:00 until 15:00 on weekdays and from 21:00 to 04:00 for asphalt surfacing work. The night work will only commence on 11 April 2023 and continue until early May 2023, weather permitting.

The roadworks along Main Road entail the following:

  • Installation of sections of the kerb, channel, kerb inlet and one stormwater culvert
  • Removing the existing road surfacing and replacing the old surface with hot-mix asphalt
  • Reinstating the road markings

'The resurfacing of Main Road in Simon's Town between Dido Valley Road and Redhill Road is an important project as this is a key mobility route for commuters in the far South. Regular and continuous road maintenance is pivotal in ensuring our road network – which is one of Cape Town's biggest assets – remains in a good condition. This type of work also prolongs the longevity of our road infrastructure. We are trying our best to complete the project as soon as possible to limit the inconvenience. In the meantime, I want to thank residents for their patience and support while work is under way,' said the City's Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Mobility, Councillor Rob Quintas.
